Ways of working

Online therapy across the UK and internationally

I offer online therapy by secure video to adults across the UK and internationally. You join from a private, quiet space of your choosing, and we work together in much the same way as we would in person.

Recognise this?

This may suit you if…

  • You live outside London, or travelling into Farringdon each week is not realistic
  • Your working hours, caring responsibilities or health make getting to appointments difficult
  • You feel more at ease talking from your own space than in an unfamiliar room
  • Anxiety makes travelling, or sitting in a waiting area, feel like a hurdle
  • You travel for work and want your sessions to continue wherever you are
  • You would like to mix online sessions with occasional in-person ones

Not sure where to start?

An initial consultation is a simple way to see if we’re a good fit. No pressure.

How online therapy works

Online sessions take place over a secure, encrypted video platform. Before we start, I send you a link; you click it at the agreed time and we meet on screen. You will need a laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and a reasonably stable internet connection.

The sessions themselves follow the same shape as in-person therapy. We meet at a regular time, usually weekly, and you can bring whatever is on your mind. I work in an integrative way, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT-informed approaches, at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Making your space private

The most important practical step is finding somewhere you can talk without being overheard or interrupted. For some people that is a bedroom or spare room; for others it is a parked car or a booked meeting room at work. Headphones help a great deal, both for privacy and for hearing clearly. It can also be worth turning off notifications and letting others in your home know you are not to be disturbed.

I always join from a private, confidential space too.

Who online therapy suits

Online therapy suits many different people. Some live far from London or in areas where it is hard to find a psychotherapist they connect with. Some have demanding jobs or young children, and simply cannot spare the extra time for travel. Others find that being in familiar surroundings makes it easier to open up, particularly when they are struggling with anxiety or feeling low.

It can also be a good fit for neurodivergent adults who find new environments tiring, or for anyone who prefers the slight sense of distance a screen provides, at least to begin with.

Is online therapy as effective?

Research suggests that online therapy can be as effective as face-to-face therapy for many people and many difficulties. What seems to matter most, in either setting, is the quality of the relationship between you and your psychotherapist, and whether you feel heard and understood.

Many people are surprised by how quickly a video session stops feeling unusual. After the first one or two, the screen tends to fade into the background.

Practical details

  • Sessions are available to adults living in the UK and internationally.
  • You will need a device with a camera, a stable connection and a private space.
  • We can agree at the start what to do if the connection drops.
  • We can agree at the start how to keep you safe if you are in distress, including who to contact in an emergency.
  • You can find details of fees on a separate page.

You can read more about what to expect in a first session.

When in-person may be better

Online therapy is not right for everyone. If you have no private space at home, or if you live with someone who makes you feel unsafe, coming to a room may be more appropriate. Some people also find they need the physical separation of travelling to a different place to really step out of daily life and reflect.

If you are in or around London, in-person sessions in Farringdon are available, and many people combine the two. We can talk about what would work best during an initial consultation. Get in touch when you are ready.

Questions

Common questions

What platform do you use for online sessions?

Sessions take place by secure video. I will send you a link and simple instructions before your first session.

Can I have online sessions if I live outside London?

Yes. I offer online therapy to adults living across the UK and internationally.

What if I do not have a private room at home?

Some people use a parked car, a booked room at work or a friend's home. If finding privacy is difficult, we can think about it together in the initial consultation, and in-person sessions may be an alternative.

Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?

Yes. Many people combine the two, coming to Farringdon when they can and meeting online when that is easier.

Can we have sessions by phone instead of video?

Please ask when you get in touch. We can talk about what would work best for you.
